Star Wars TrilogyThe Star Wars trilogy hit a nerve. It capitalized on cutting edge technology and cinematography of its day to create gripping visual effects. But equally captivating for audiences was its story line–a space-age saga portraying a cosmic conflict of good and evil, the "Force" and the "Dark Side." As the noble Luke Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kanobi, Yoda and Princess Leia engaged in mortal, big-screen combat with the evil Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine and others, spellbound audiences were vicariously drawn into the universal war between good and evil. As they watched the drama being played out, they unconsciously knew it wasn't their first visit to that cosmic battlefield. Everyone, from their earliest moments of self-awareness, struggles with choices between good and evil. Star Wars skillfully tapped into this numinous sense that we live in the midst of great universal battle between forces of good and evil, light and darkness, truth and error, love and hate. This age-old saga of a cosmic conflict of good and evil, a conflict in which like it or not we are all involved, originated in the Bible. It claims that we cannot understand life until we understand this story. |
