Though he works by stealth, like the
Chinese robber bandit, his presence in our world is evident.
He tempts people to sin, then overwhelms them with discouragement and constantly
accuses them before God of the very sins he tempts them to commit.

inflicts pain and suffering wherever he is able and on whatever scale he
is allowed. Luke 13:16; Job
1:8;-2:10 The movie line, "Never underestimate the power of the
Dark Side," wasn't far off the mark. The Bible puts it this way:
"Your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom
he may devour." 1 Peter 5:8
Satan, not God, causes evil and suffering. Why God allows it is
one of life's great mysteries, but God has not left us without at least
some clues, and He has revealed to us what He's doing about
it and what the ultimate outcome will be (see the title page of this study).
Those who connect with God
and put their trust in Him need not fear Satan, for God has assured them
that "He (God) who is in you is greater than he (Satan) who is in the world,"
and that ultimately, Satan "'shall be no more forever.'" 1 John 4:4; Ezekiel
28:19.
