Primeval Cosmic Battle
Long before war broke out in our homes, our
marriages, our neighborhoods, our cities, in the nations of our world,
"war broke out in heaven". Here is the actual language of the Bible
describing the outbreak of this war: "War broke out in heaven: Michael
and his angels fought with the dragon: and the dragon and his angels fought,
but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any
longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called
the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth,
and his angels were cast out with him." Revelation 12:7-9
In its original Hebrew derivation, "Michael" means "like God."
"Michael" refers to Jesus Christ, the
divine representative of God to created beings. So a "war" broke
out in heaven between Satan and God, a
great cosmic struggle between the forces of good and evil, a conflict which
spread "to the earth," affecting every person on this planet.
We are not strangers to war. The Holocaust, Vietnam, Desert Storm,
Bosnia, Kosovo–whether by news media or by personal experience, we are
witnesses to the horror and horrible reality of war.
Fortunately, the story doesn't end there.
