Michael
Jude 9 refers to Michael
as "the archangel." An archangel could be either the chief angel,
being an angel himself, or one who was head over the angels though not
an angel himself.
1 Thessalonians 4:16 says
that when Jesus Christ returns, He will speak with the voice of "the archangel,"
thus identifying Jesus Himself as Michael the archangel. Jesus is
not a created being, and thus not an angel Himself, as Micah
5:2 plainly reveals. Michael is one of the names of Jesus, the
God-like One ("Michael" in the original Hebrew means "like God"), who rules
in love over the angels.
