Pentecost
In the Old Testament, "Pentecost" was the day when the "Feast
of Harvest" was celebrated. It was also known as the "Feast of Weeks"
because it was held seven weeks after the "Feast of Unleavened Bread" during
which the Passover was celebrated commemorating the day when Israel
was miraculously delivered from slavery in Egypt. In the New Testament
the "Feast of Harvest" was called "Pentecost" (which means "50", or "seven
weeks", after the Passover).
The first Pentecost feast in the New Testament occurred 50 days after
the Jewish Passover on which Jesus was crucified, and 10 days after Jesus
ascended back to heaven. During this Pentecost celebration, God sent
the Holy Spirit with supernatural manifestations to the church, empowering
the disciples to share the gospel (the good news about Jesus) with great
boldness and power. This story in recorded in Acts 2.
