DenialIt's the most natural thing in the world to seek a scapegoat for our sins, so we aren't responsible after all. It's called denial. It's the government's fault, our parents' fault, my boss's fault, the kids' fault, my spouse's fault, the wealthy's fault, the poor's fault, public education's fault, etc. We, of course, are the poor victims. After Adam and Eve sinned, "they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden. "Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, 'Where are you?' |

"So he said, 'I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.' And He said, 'Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?' Then the man said, 'The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.' And the LORD God said to the woman, 'What is this you have done?' The woman said, 'The serpent deceived me, and I ate.'" Genesis 3:8-13 Sound familiar? And notice that often the bottom line of our denial is an indirect attempt to make God responsible. "The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate." "The serpent" which You made "deceived me, and I ate." The parents which You gave me did this to me. The circumstances which You placed me in caused me to do what I did. I am not responsible, You are! Denial. Repentance is the place where denial stops. It's where we begin
to get healing. We begin to take personal responsibility for our
actions. We begin to get help. We begin to get saved.
We begin to get well.
