Jesus' DeathThough He was pronounced innocent of any crime by a Roman court, Jesus was delivered in a political move into the hands of a religious aristocracy who felt threatened by His popularity with the masses. With Rome's consent, they crucified Him.For a straightforward, unembellished account of the crucifixion of Jesus, see Mark 15:22-39. Crucifixion had been developed by the Phoenicians as an instrument of torture, and later adopted by Rome as the ultimate punishment for, and deterrent against, heinous crimes. The March, 1986 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association article entitled, "On the Physical Death of Jesus Christ," written by a physician, a minister and an anatomical artist, meticulously researched the final 24 hours of Christ's life and death. From the standpoint of shear physical torture it was a gruesome death. |

But the Bible writers make it clear that the death of Jesus Christ was far more than a physiological and anatomical event! Though innocent of any sin, He died bearing the sins of the world, the sins of each of us. 1 Peter 2:21-25 "He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement of our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53:4-6 He willingly took our sins upon Himself and submitted to this death in order to deliver us from sin's ultimate death penalty and it's power over us in daily living. John 10:17,18 His death and resurrection offers us the freedom to live a life of unselfish love, a life that will last forever. Would you like to experience that
life?
